Questions

Questions.

The ones worth asking before you hand over a set of keys.

Custody and who handles your car

Are you the carrier, or is my car handed to someone else?

First Team owns its trucks and trailers, carries its own insurance, and employs its drivers. Nothing is subcontracted. No load is posted to a board. The company that quotes the move is the company that performs it, insures it, and answers for it.

Who will actually be driving my car?

An employed driver, assigned before collection. Their profile reaches you before the truck does: name, photograph, and how long they have been with us. The same driver stays with the car end to end. It does not have to be you meeting them. Give us the name of whoever releases the car and whoever receives it.

Does my car change trucks or sit at a terminal?

It is loaded once and unloaded once. Same trailer, same driver, from the collection address to the delivery address. There is no terminal, no staging yard, and no second crew. If a route ever required anything else, you would hear it before the booking was accepted.

Will anyone know what I am shipping?

The trailer carries no indication of what is inside, and an unbranded profile is available on request. Cars are not photographed for marketing. The condition record is yours and is used for nothing else. Every driver signs a confidentiality agreement. No client is named anywhere in our materials.

Insurance and what happens if something goes wrong

What insurance do you carry, and can I check it?

First Team carries its own policy. It is not contingent cover sitting behind a stranger's policy. The certificate goes out before collection without being asked for, and names the underwriter, the policy period, the limit, how that limit applies, and the deductible position. Our DOT and MC numbers are published, so you can check authority and filings in the federal database.

My car is on an agreed-value policy. Does your cover match it?

Those are two different things, and it is worth knowing before the car moves. Cargo cover responds to physical loss or damage while the car is in our custody. The figure on your appraisal sits on your own collector policy. Ask your agent to confirm that policy stays in force while the car is with a carrier.

How is the car's condition recorded?

Multiple cameras capture the car at collection: panels, wheels, sills, undertray, interior, odometer. The same capture is repeated at delivery. Both sets are timestamped and given to you. The record is made on every move, whether or not anything is ever questioned. Wash the car first if that is convenient, or tell us it is dusty.

What happens if something goes wrong?

You hear it from the person handling your move, the same day. The capture at loading and the capture at delivery settle when it happened, so there is nothing to establish. First Team opens the claim as the carrier and the insured party. You choose the shop. There is no second company in the conversation.

Loading, securing, and the trailer

How is my car loaded onto the trailer?

On RailRyder. The car is secured over its wheels outside the trailer and drawn in at roughly four degrees, against about thirteen for a conventional tailgate. Nobody sits in the car to position it, and no door is opened inside the trailer.

The car is very low or modified. What do you need?

Ground clearance at the lowest fixed point, overall width and height, and whether the car has a lift or a transport setting. Tell us about splitters, skirts, spacers, cages or fixed-back seats. At four degrees the splitter usually stays on and the suspension does not need raising. Dimensions are checked against the trailer before the date, not at the curb.

Will anyone drive it, and what will the odometer read?

The car is not driven onto or off the trailer. It is drawn on over its wheels. The odometer is photographed at loading and again at delivery, and both frames are in the record you receive. Where the mileage is part of the car, that is the answer.

How is the car secured, and is anything above it?

Restraint runs over the tires. Nothing bears on bodywork, suspension, subframe or exhaust. Nothing travels above your car, so no fluid from another vehicle can reach it. You do not need to ask for a position or an upgrade. Because loading is touchless, the seat, the mirrors and the cabin are left as you set them.

Is the trailer sealed, and is it temperature controlled?

Sealed and insulated, so the car is out of direct sun, rain, salt and road spray for the whole route. We do not run active temperature or humidity control, and we will not claim we do. Tell us at booking if the car has wood structure, early plastics or original leather, and we will tell you plainly whether a three-day transit is a concern.

Scheduling, tracking, and events

Do I get a date, or a window?

The written proposal sets out collection and delivery dates for your move rather than a multi-day window you have to stay free for. Daily distance is governed by federal hours-of-service rules, which no carrier can lawfully beat, so a long route runs over several days. If weather or a road closure affects the plan, you hear it from us first.

Can I follow the car while it is moving?

Yes. Once your vehicle is loaded and secured you are sent a tracking link, and you can see where it is for the rest of the journey. You also have your driver's direct number from before collection, so a question goes to the person holding your car rather than to a dispatcher.

Can you work to an auction or event schedule?

Yes. Send the lot or stock number, who has authority to release the car, and the load-in or release window the venue allows. We plan the truck around that window rather than around when capacity appears. Gate credentials and field release times are read from the event's own schedule.

Can you move several cars, or one on its own?

Both. A collection move is planned as a sequence, with one point of contact throughout and condition captured for each car separately. Sole use of a trailer can be scheduled. Owning the fleet is what makes a dedicated movement something we put on a calendar rather than wait for.

Preparing the car and access

How should I prepare the car?

A quarter tank of fuel, for weight. Tires at the placard pressure. A battery that holds charge, with any tender disconnected. One working key, plus the wheel-lock key. Disable the alarm or write the procedure down for the driver. Remove toll transponders and gate tags. Tell us about immobilizers, cut-off switches, transport modes, or an electric car's drive mode.

Can I leave anything in the car?

Send the car as itself: the tool roll, the books, a hardtop, secured where they normally live. Everything else comes out. Household goods sit outside a motor carrier's authority, and loose objects move against trim over three days. Anything travelling with the car appears in the condition capture, so its presence and its state are recorded.

The car does not run, or it drips oil. Can it travel?

Usually. Tell us whether it rolls, steers and brakes, and whether there is a key. A non-running car is drawn aboard rather than driven, which is the point for a barn find or a car mid-restoration. A drip is not a problem if we know beforehand: the car is placed low with absorbent under it.

My street will not take a large truck. What then?

Give us the address and any restriction you know about at booking. Access is confirmed before the day, not discovered on it. Where a full-size transporter cannot reach the door, we agree the approach in advance and bring the car out to the truck enclosed. It is not handed to anyone outside our own crew.

Terms and payment

How much does it cost?

A person prices each commission individually. Route, dates, the car itself, sole use or shared, and access at both ends all bear on it, so there is no calculator on this site. A calculator prices a guess, and we are scheduling a specific truck on a specific date. Send the details and a written proposal comes back within four business hours.

Do you take a deposit?

No. We are not searching for a truck after taking a booking, so there is nothing to hold against. Terms are agreed in writing before collection and settled with the company. A driver does not collect money, and delivery does not depend on producing certified funds at the door.

What if I need to move or cancel the date?

Tell us and we reschedule. There is no deposit to forfeit, so a change is a scheduling conversation rather than a financial event. The proposal names the point at which a truck and a driver are committed to your date, and what changes after it. Sales and restorations move. We plan for that.

Tell us about the vehicle.

A person will come back to you within four business hours with a proposal.
